Viola Q. Abbott
Viola Q. Abbott holds a B.A. from Virginia Union University, an M.A. from Brooklyn College and Long Island University and an MS ED. from Bank Street College. Vi spent more than 30 years in the New York City public schools as a, teacher, middle school math coordinator and assistant principal, elementary school principal, assistant superintendent, Local Instructional Superintendent and Community Superintendent in District 13. Her career and instructional experiences range from elementary to college. Under her leadership at P.S. 11 the students performance data reached a Level 3. Her strong belief in schools belong to children was evident in the culture of her school and the Clinton Hills Community. Vi has extensive experience in enhancing performance and instructional results in schools and mentoring and supporting principals in instructional and organizational leadership. Since her retirement in 2005 she has continued to pursue her love for mathematics and leadership. She served for three years as an adjunct professor in the Bank Street Math Leadership Dept. where she advised, coached and mentored mathematics teacher from Maryland to California. She also served as a coach for the aspiring principals in the Principal Academy at Teachers College-Columbia University.
Currently, she is a consultant for New York City Leadership, Principal Candidate Pool and spends many hours mentoring principals, assistant principals and supporting schools with mathematics and improving instruction.
